During his senior year of track, Coach Cavanaugh won both the NTL and the West Branch league Javelin and Discus titles. His throw of 196 ft in the Javelin at Districts was good enough to bring home a 1st place District IV title.

After scratching on a throw at States that would have brought home Wellsboro's second men's individual state winner, he settled for 9th place and just missed the podium.

Coach Cavanaugh graduated from Mansfield University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. In college, he played one year of football at Wilkes University and threw the Javelin his Sophomore year at Shippensburg University.

Coach Cavanaugh has coached various sports for Wellsboro over the past 20 years. Including six as a Varsity football assistant (1993, 1996-1999), four as a Middle School football assistant (1994-1995, 2012-2013), one as a girls basketball Varsity assistant (2013) and two years as the boys Varsity track head coach (1998-1999).
