Junior High Hornets Capture NTL Track & Field Championships

The Wellsboro Junior High Track teams swept last night's NTL Championship meet. The boys won with 135 points while the girls scored 109.

"It was an amazing night! I am so proud of our teams," head coach Shannon Tice said. "They worked hard all season with a constant determination to improve their own times and distances. They were a fun group of kids to coach and I can't wait to see how they improve in future years!"

Wyalusing finished 2nd in the girls meet with 79 points, followed by Troy (66), Athens (54), Williamson (51), Towanda (50), Northeast Bradford (48), North Penn-Mansfield (46), and Canton (1).

Athens (124) finished 2nd in the boys meet, followed by North Penn-Mansfield (76), Towanda (58), Wyalusing (43), Williamson (40), Northeast Bradford (11), and Troy (11).

For the girls, Ryleigh Sporer took 2nd in both the 100m (14.16) and 200m (29.23) and 400m (1:06.26), Paige Rush (30.23) was 4th in the 200m, Kaci Kosek was 7th in the 800m (2:50.24) and 6th in the 1600m (6:09.40), and Olive Twoey (17.42) and Lilly Sprouse (17.87) were 3rd and 4th in the 100m hurdles.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay (56.37) and was 2nd in the 4x400m relay (5:15.13).

Penelope Pell took 2nd in the high jump (4-ft, 4), Emaleigh Hamblin was 3rd in the long jump (13-ft, 3.5), and Pell finished 5th in the triple jump (27-ft, 10).

Emma McConaghy (26-ft, 10) and Brooke Hamblin (26-ft, 9.5) were 3rd and 4th in the shot put, and Kaydence Pierce (66-ft) took 3rd in the discus.

For the boys, Liam Stevens won the 100m (12.56) and the 200m (25.48), Austin DeShazo (1:07.23) was 9th in the 400m, Daniel Taboada finished 9th in the 800m (2:41.30) and 7th in the 1600m (5:46.97), and Aden Berg (20.66) was 8th in the 100m hurdles.

Wellsboro took top spot in the 4x100m relay (50.84) and 5th in the 4x400m relay (4:48.47).

Cody Tomlinson (5-ft, 7) won the high jump, Stevens (17-ft, 4) won the long jump, and Desmun Hennigan (33-ft, 8) and Colton Hauser (31-ft, 10) finished 1-2 in the triple jump.

Conlen Whitsell won the shot put (37-ft, 6) and the discus (117-ft, 10) with Ari Snyder (100-ft, 8) in 2nd.

Both teams conclude their championship season undefeated at 4-0.
