Junior High Track Teams Sweep Rival North Penn

The Wellsboro Junior High Track teams kicked off their season Thursday afternoon with a sweep of rival North Penn-Mansfield.

The young Lady Hornets won 87-18 while the boys won 62.5-46.5.

For the girls, Paige Rush (14.57) and Emaleigh Hamblin (15.5) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, and Rush (31.27), Hamblin (32.92) and Lena Rothermel (33.32) swept the 200m. Joelle Bull (1:10.83) was 2nd in the 400m, Kaci Kosek (2:53.99) won the 800m, Brianna O'Shea Losinger (7:16.25) won the 1600m, and Dillyn Patt (17.42), Olive Twoey (17.88) and Lillian Sprouse (19.39) swept the 100m hurdles.

Wellsboro swept the relays, winning the 4x100m in 54.76 and the 4x400m in 5:08.93.

June Roth (4-ft, 6), Penelope Pell (4-ft, 4) and Kate Satalin (4-ft) swept the high jump, Patt (16-ft, 2.75), Roth (14-ft, 2.5) and Hamblin (13-ft, 5.5) swept the long jump, and Roth (29-ft, 4.5) won the triple jump.

Emma McConaghy (28-ft) won the shot put and Kaydence Pierce (64-ft, 11), Olivia Patt (53-ft, 2) and Brooke Hamblin (53-ft) swept the discus.

For the boys, Liam Stevens (12.35), Desmun Hennigan (13.14) and Elijah Kennedy (13.74) swept the 100m while Stevens (26.60), Cody Tomlinson (27.32) and Austin DeShazo (28.64) swept the 200m. DeShazo (1:09.26) was 2nd in the 400m, Lucas Taboada (3:08.63) was 3rd in the 800m, Daniel Taboada (6:05.46) took 4th in the 1600m, and Justin Dunlap (20.84) was 3rd in the 100m hurdles.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay in 48.83 and took 2nd in the 4x400m in 4:57.46.

Tomlinson (5-ft) won the high jump, Stevens (18-ft, 7), Colton Hauser (16-ft, 6) and Hennigan (16-ft) swept the long jump, and Hennigan (33-ft, 4) won the triple jump.

Conlen Whitsell (37-ft, 3) took 1st in the shot put and Ari Snyder (97-ft, 6), Case Butler (93-ft, 3) and Lewis Baldwin (84-ft, 7) swept the discus.

The teams travel to Towanda next Thursday for their second meet.
