Lady Hornets Finish Runner Up At NTL Championships

The Wellsboro Girls Track team finished 2nd overall at Friday's NTL Track & Field Championships in Athens.
The Lady Hornets scored 102.5 points, edging out Towanda (100.5) and finishing behind Athens (133). Williamson (96) was 4th followed by Troy (75), Canton (60), Northeast Bradford (56.5), Wyalusing (44), North Penn-Mansfield (21.5) and Sayre (11).
Sophomore Piper Hoprich took gold in both the 100m (12.29) and 200m (25.46), breaking both of her school records. Freshman Jennifer Belz (18.44) was 8th in the 100m hurdles, freshman Isla Twoey (54.14) was 6th in the 300m hurdles, and freshman Piper Perry (1:13.03) was 14th in the 400m.
Freshman Molly Tice (3:12.23) finished 16th in the 800m and sophomore Lauren Kosek was 3rd in the 1600m (5:16.25) and won the 3200m (11:15.30).
Senior Annie Gehman was 2nd in the high jump (4-ft, 6), 2nd in the long jump (15-ft, 10.75) and won the triple jump (33-ft, 0.25)., and sophomore Ellie Largey (6-ft) tied for 6th in the pole vault.
Freshman Katie Whitney (64-ft, 6.5) was 20th in the discus, junior Taylor Main (92-ft, 11) took 2nd in the javelin, and freshman Aileen Bowers (25-ft, 5.5) was 12th in the shot put.
The team is back in action at next week's District IV Championships at Williamsport on Thursday and Saturday.
